General information

Together with Uppsala University, Akademiska Hus has built a new arena for the humanistic conversation: the Humanistic Theatre. Here, in addition to the theater hall, there are also office, meeting and teaching rooms.
The aim of the building is to create a unique space for a boundless dialogue where the humanities are manifested and made visible. Man, as a thinking and creative individual, is at the center. The idea is that the theater should invite dialogue within the university between subjects and faculties, as well as between the university and the surrounding society - locally, nationally and internationally.
The humanistic theater also functions as a communication route for passage to and from existing buildings within the English Park and is an addition to other institutions in the area. It also contributes to an active and lively campus area as the building is also available for independent activities. It can also be used in the evening for various events, lectures and meetings.
The theater holds about 140 people, with seats placed on a horseshoe-shaped terrace around the central area. The open conversation is promoted by the design where the audience sits facing each other with a smaller area in the center for mentors or conversation leaders. On one wall, which has no seats, there is a 32 square meter screen that opens up for conversations with participants from all over the world.
